Wayne Blackburn, 45, Owner & President of Inspector Homes Incorporated, is a full-time Oahu, Hawaii based Professional Home Inspector celebrating his 8th business year in Hawaii. Wayne is a residential specialist, and long-time Member of ASHI, the American Society of Home Inspectors, carrying their top rank of ASHI Certified Inspector. As the son of a prominent mainland 50-year career Commercial & Residential Land Developer, Wayne literally grew up in & around the construction industry. He is deeply experienced in every phase of residential construction & renovation, with hands-on experience in all systems. Wayne is an industry leader locally. After his 5th year in business in Hawaii, Wayne designed & founded the Hawaii Master Home Inspector program, designed to screen, designate and promote Hawaii’s finest inspectors. He assures his inspection clients unbiased, totally objective inspection services, and backs it up with the finest written Pledge in Hawaii. Wayne is strongly opposed to trendy in-house Realtor / Broker operated inspection companies, and he is an advocate for much needed new regulation for Professional Home Inspectors in Hawaii. Hobbies I enjoy all sorts of things. As a kid, I enjoyed building tree houses (mine had electricity, carpet, and all the comforts of home) and model building. I got the itch for real cars when I was 15, a hobby I still enjoy today. Other interests include renovation of my own homes, politics, and even ballroom dancing. When I'm not doing one of those, I can be found working on this website, another hobby. I soloed as a student fixed-wind pilot after only 13 hours with an instructor, and hope to obtain my private pilots license, as I have time. I'm now enrolled at Diamond Head Theater, to pursue a lifelong interest in acting as another hobby. Evolution My early interest in cars lead me to become an auto mechanic in high school, then to the Automotive Aftermarket parts business, where I climbed the corporate ladder. I spent years in automotive retail/wholesale management in the 1980's. I ultimately became the Purchasing Manager at a 100,000' distribution center, which supplied 40 auto parts outlets. It was also my responsibility to train over 300 employees in customer service, and during computer changeovers. My heart has always leaned toward self employment. These experiences helped me get there, and continue to guide me as a businessman today. Construction Background & Experience My skills are the result of real world, hands on experiences- something you can't get online, or from a textbook. I have extensive new construction and ongoing renovation experiences- both here and on the mainland. I've been through permitting, demolition, performed extensive framing, plumbing, drywall, trim carpentry, tile and hardwood installations, roofing, kitchen and bath design. I've also completely rewired multiple homes- on the mainland and under an Electrician here. I am quite familiar with code requirements as a result of these projects. An invaluable experience: I was honored to be one of the Construction Managers during the delicate renovation of a unique National Historic Landmark, The Palace Of Florence. This 1926 apartment building (PICTURED ABOVE) required extreme attention to detail, something I really enjoy. I performed on-site drafting to accommodate the ever changing designs, audited contractors work prior to municipal inspections, and researched historic elements to facilitate and accurate renovation. My efforts, and the efforts of our team were instrumental in obtaining National Landmark designation for The Palace, something I am very proud of. See the referral letter here from my old boss, Mr. Hamilton Jones. Visit Gaspar Properties Inc. to view this wonderful old building, and several other neat ones I personally managed. Today I evolved out of these experiences, relocated to Oahu, and laid the groundwork for my company in late 2001. Now in my 8th year in business in Hawaii, I've become quite familiar with the unique circumstances regarding Hawaii's construction, ranging from single-wall construction, homes built on slopes, behind the times codes, and inexcusable quality related issues. Couple this with my previous experiences, you can be assured I know where to look, and what to look for. My personality, degree of professionalism, and extremely detailed services were welcomed with opened arms here on Oahu, rendering the rather low standard status quo obsolete. Today, hundreds of people trust my company annually with their home inspection needs. They send their friends to me, and many Agents often call me when they are buying a home or condominium. When you love what you do, it tends to show in your work. I'm very proactive in protecting the home inspection industry locally, keeping others accountable and as an advocate for new regulation etc. Quinn Mitchell and Larry Rushing, mainland custom home builders, were the ones who suggested that I become a Professional Home Inspector. Thanks guys! You really inspired me with your unparalleled home- building and renovation skills, and high degree of professionalism. See their referral letter here. I hope you choose my company. I'm confident you'll be very happy you did. Best Regards, Wayne Blackburn |
