SHOPPING AROUND?   PLEASE REVIEW THIS IMPORTANT SPECIAL ALERT

At Inspector Homes, we discovered long ago the need to monitor our competitors websites, business
cards, and brochures, for compliance with the various national organizations (ASHI, NAHI, etc.) strict logo
use requirements.  It has come to our attention (again) that several of Hawaii's home inspectors are
displaying logos of organizations THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO.  That's bad news for Hawaii's consumers and
Realtors.  It is paramount to understand that logo use is first an earned credential, one that requires
ongoing education and annual renewal.  Such logos CANNOT be displayed anywhere by anyone until the
inspector has first satisfied specific requirements and test standards- that is if rules were followed.

In some cases, these inspectors FAILED TO PAY OR RENEW THEIR DUES, while some have NOT MET
THE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS TO DISPLAY THE LOGOS.  SOME INSPECTORS DO NOT EVEN BELONG
TO THE ORGANIZATION.  Others may have gone out of business entirely, while isolated cases can be an
honest mistake- however I feel the majority are fully aware of the rules.  To be clear, such ignorance and
disrespect for the rules is irresponsible, a disgrace to the industry of which can affect ethical competitors,
and it is FRAUD.  We urge everyone shopping around to VERIFY THE INSPECTORS ADVERTISED
CREDENTIALS, before you hire, or refer them.  We also suggest you check inspections recently performed
for violations, and if you find misrepresentations, ask the inspector to explain. Check business cards,
brochures, and reports for logos.

Below are the most commonly abused logos.  Just  click on the logo, and search by state or zip, to see if
your inspector is listed, or in compliance.  You can also call each organization directly.  For the record, I
maintain the right to display the ASHI & NAHI (first and second) logos.  Number three is the lesser,
entry-level logo for NAHI, which I was allowed to bypass because of experience.

A special note: ASHI "Associate" Members DO NOT automatically have logo privileges in joining ASHI.  As
of 6/7/08, NO ASHI ASSOCIATE MEMBER IN HAWAII has ASHI logo privileges, according to the ASHI
website Member access, and call / inquiries to ASHI HQ.  We will update this periodically  and if it changes.

I'm doing my part, by asking the various organizations to immediately investigate discrepancies when
encountered.  Unfortunately, I'm only one person-  I hope you will do your part.  Take a moment and check
out your inspector, and if you need help, call me directly at 808-258-9268.

Best Regards,

"Wayne,

It was truly a pleasure to meet you and to be able to learn so much in such a
small amount of time. I appreciate you accommodating me and my Realtor, and
also for your patients for my million questions. I really appreciate your
thoroughness and speediness of getting the inspection papers to me.

I reviewed the report and did not find any errors as far as what you included or did
not explain. I did however find some minor grammatical mistakes. On page three
under Kitchen under number 4, the last sentence the word "for" has a 9
accidentally inserted in the word. Also on page 4 under master bedroom in the
notes section the word "final" needs to be replaced by vinyl.

Other than these minor errors I found the report to be informative and it contained
everything that you and I talked about. Thank you again for everything, and I am
really glad that I chose you as my inspector. I will most definitely be
recommending your business and your services to friends and family.

Thank you again,

Sara Richter"
